The 101 Proof Classic Pomade was formulated with the old-school, slick styles of the past but remember, it's water soluble, so if you want a little looser of a hold but still want the shine, apply when the hair is damp and let dry. This will break the product down a bit and allow for more flexibility without jeopardizing the sheen.
